This forum will explore international and New Zealand perspectives around bridging policy and practice that effectively supports disabled people who are aging and those who become disabled later in life. As growing numbers of disabled people are impacted by the aging process new challenges and dynamics are emerging for policy, practice and workforce development.

This forum will share some of the bridging work that is being done to bring together knowledge, research and practice from both the aged and disability sectors.
The forum will involve presentations from and discussions with two keynote speakers:
Andria is Chief Executive Officer of March of Dimes Canada, a large service and advocacy organisation for people with physical disabilities, which has been involved in some important collaborations. Andria has helped create the Bridging Aging and Disability International Network (BADIN) which works to promote “bridging” to better serve people aging into or aging with disabilities, to eliminate duplication, streamline programs and encourage knowledge transfer.
Sharon is a consultant on disability supports, interested in the interface between aging, dementia, and disability.
She has been at the forefront of work in New Zealand on the interfaces in policy and practice with regard to the aged and disability sector and will share the progress being made and the barriers still to be faced.
A not to be missed opportunity to explore what will be a growing area of focus as we come to grips with rapidly evolving demographics that will increasingly impact disabled people and families.
This leadership forum is brought to you by IIDL (the International Initiative for Disability Leadership) in association with NZDSN and Te Pou.
The International Initiative for Disability leadership (IIDL) is focused on the rapid exchange of ideas, innovation and research across member countries through interactions involving Governments and those in leadership roles in the disability sector. IIDL hosts regular exchanges and conferences involving member countries with the next event being hosted by Australia (Sydney) in 2017 (February 27th-March 2nd). Because of the proximity some of the exchanges are being hosted in New Zealand. It is through IIDL that we are able to host Andria Spindel who is on her way to Sydney.
