An interesting article with parallels to the issues faced by the NZ Disability Workforce and the need for greater strategic planning for the future workforce expectations in NZ.
The parallels include a geographically dispersed workforce as support services seek to deliver much-needed support across the country, not just in the main urban centres. Among the recurring themes identified in the research are cultural/socioeconomic and geographical factors, administrative burden and bureaucracy, and values, culture and geography. These themes could easily apply to the NZ context, and as the research found in Australia, more research into these factors is essential if we are to plan strategically for the disability workforce of tomorrow.
