We are passionate about making sure people with disabilities can live the best life possible. We work hard to make sure they understand the disability support they are entitled to, and that they know how to access and use that support. And we keep it simple.
We have a Pasifika Liaison who is a mum with Individualised Funding for her daughter with Down Syndrome. Many people have told us she just “gets it” both as a mum and someone from the Pasifika community. We believe that people are the experts in their own lives so it is critical that they are actively involved in putting together the plan for how they want to use their funding. We value people’s lived experience and want to hear feedback and ideas from the people we support, so we regularly ask for this when we review how they are going.
This information helps us to make changes to what we do and how we work with people. We also know that people are juggling lots of responsibilities, so we work hard to get back to people quickly when they contact us.
As an Individualised Funding (IF) host we support people across the wider Auckland area, and we advocate for them with the NASC (Taikura). We help people to manage their IF budget across the year, and keep them regularly informed of where their budget is at. We also support a number of disabled people to stay living in their own homes by providing Homecare Workers to help them with personal care and housework.
We connect regularly with other providers to network and share ideas, and this directly benefits the people we support. We also present to community groups to get the word out about the availability of disability support.
