NZDSN supports provider access to the following training opportunities:

Graduate Diploma in Disability Sector Leadership

Scholarship Opportunity

NZDSN and the Open Polytechnic have established a scholarship for disability support provider staff wishing to complete this programme.

To be eligible, prospective applicants must first obtain confirmation from the Open Polytechnic that they meet the academic criteria requirements for the Graduate Diploma.  With that, an application may then be made to NZDSN for the scholarship.

If awarded, it means the applicant’s fees for the first year will be waived by the Open Polytechnic.
There is a requirement that all scholarship recipients will participate in promotion of the programme with NZDSN.

MSD Training Fund

NOTE: Applications for the MSD Training Fund are presently on-hold while we await a revised contract from MSD.

The Training and Workforce Development Fund supports Employment, Participation and Inclusion Service providers to improve and develop their services through learning and training.

The purpose of the Fund is to enable the staff of MSD funded Employment, Participation and Inclusion Services to access a variety of training options relevant to their positions and that contribute to the effective delivery of disability supports in line with government direction, including gender pay equity.

Training should be available locally or extramurally through polytechnics, universities or other NZQA recognised providers, or provided through attendance at agreed seminars or workshops in New Zealand.

The issue of whether the MSD Training Fund should support academic study has prompted a number of conversations with the fund owners, MSD.  The stated purpose of the fund is to enable the staff of MSD funded Employment, Participation and Inclusion Services to access a variety of training options relevant to their positions and that contribute to the effective delivery of disability supports in line with government direction, including gender pay equity.

Specifically, emphasis is given to training that enhances the ability of the individual and the service to effectively implement Enabling Good Lives.  While that training can be delivered by a range of training providers, including polytechnics, universities or other NZQA recognised providers, or provided through attendance at agreed seminars or workshops in New Zealand, the purpose of the fund is not to support academic study per se, particularly if that study is a requirement of the role the staff member is employed to deliver.
