Let’s keep momentum on solid progress for disabled community

New Zealand Disability Support Network has welcomed today’s announcements on consistent needs assessment, and more choice and control for disabled New Zealanders, and looks forward to working with officials on next steps.

NZDSN also welcomes the quality of consultation and responsiveness to the disabled community’s feedback and is keen to see this approach continue.

“The announcement today from the Minister is good news –it should lead to equitable and consistent access to disability support services throughout New Zealand. A clear process where disabled people and their families can have their needs consistently assessed, put a plan together and access the funding they need is very welcome,” said NZDSN CEO Debbie Hughes.

“The signals around choice and control for flexible funding are also very positive – from here, we’ll be working through the detail to see how our Disability Support Provider members can work within the new system.”

“There’s more work to do, but this is a really positive and important step on the journey,” said Debbie Hughes.
